December Kraft+ Challenge - Naturally Neon!

Hello Krafters, it’s December!

Thank you to all who participated in last month’s

A BUG’S LIFE Challenge. The K+ Facebook Community page is looking fabulous with all your clever ‘bug’ designs. LOVE it!

An extra big thank you for all the support you have shown us over the past year, we hope to continue to inspire and challenge you in 2021.

December challenge.

Naturally Neon!

Since December is typically a little chaotic, we thought a colour challenge would be just the thing! Though it is a challenge, so we couldn’t make it too easy...go the neon! ;) As always, draw inspiration from this month’s gorgeous mood board.

The graphics were created by our very talented Amanda Hall.

I have to confess, I don't use neon, but one of the bonuses of being a hoarder...I found some VERY old neon powder paint that I had for the kids. After adding a layer of gesso, I swiped over some pink and a dash of yellow. I found that was the trick...too much of both creates ick! LOL.

For this month’s challenge I had to dive deep into my stash. I had the most fun stitching the papers behind the photo!

What a colorful challenge this month! I just had to use this photo of my DD in that hot pink outfit which was half of the inspiration for this challenge.. the other half was the fabulous mood board and I went with the pink and yellow stripes from the floor mat, which I added messily to my layout as well.. TFL!!

So far out of my comfort zone - a good place to be occasionally!

“Live for today”-is my take on this month’s Neon challenge. We look forward to seeing your entries here. Thank you, Amy

For this challenge I discovered that, even though I have enough craft supplies to last me a lifetime, I have nothing that's really neon! I decided to just make the page as bright as I could with what I had, so here's my 'nearly neon' page!

I finally got my Neon on when I came across a handful of Neon shipping tags I had in my stash forever. I stamped on them and die cut and punched shapes from them to make these ATC'S.

This page was very much inspired by the photo which was inspired by this month's mood board. I was stoked to find some paper which picked up on the pattern on the t-shirt. I love finding little ties like that. I used a Faber Castell Gelato to put some extra shadow on the weaving.

Hmmm, neons I thought, when I saw the moodboard, I don't do neons. Lol, think outside the square, the colours were perfect for this photo, and I was able to delve into my stash and find some bright embellishments. I gessoed the background, used a stencil, texture paste and colour powders to do the alphabet in the background. Some really old papers also used, goodness me they are really old, but they worked, lol.

I found this a really tough challenge - these colours took me way outside my comfort zone but after several (I lost count of how many) false starts, I’m happy with my final creation.

Please welcome for this month...

Hi, I am Bec and I am from Western Melbourne. I live with my husband and my two children. I have a son who is 5 years old and a baby girl who is 7 months. I started scrapbooking when I was about 14, and did it until I finished high school. Studies, uni and work took over for a while, but when my son turned one I dived back into it and now I am addicted! I will give anything a go and always willing to learn. I am still learning, but love creating. When I was asked to guest design I was in utter shock and disbelief! I got the mood board and had a mini freakout until my mum reminded me of my daughters fluoro pink outfit. The white door was calling to me white gesso; the woven basket lead me to the twine on the photo in a bow. So I put on my thinking cap on and this layout appeared in my mind. I was super excited to create my layout. I started with kraft card stock and white gesso, then did some pink mixed media. To soften it I added the muslin in the background and built some paper layers. Then I came unstuck and it took me a couple days to get my head around the embellishments (this is my first girl layout too; I was unsure how to embellish a girl page). I couldn't ask my village as I was keeping my guest design a surprise for them. Finally, I put my big girl pants on and got got my head around it. I used flowers, butterflies and some bee stamps. I did lots of stamping and colouring and finished them off with some wink of Stella. This was the final result. I absolutely love it and how it come together. I hope you love it too. I am absolutely honoured and proud to be a guest designer.
